Shoe Trouble

No. I haven't died. Life has just been busy. And now I'm having a shoe crisis....
So here's the deal. I've been running in New Balance 990 series shoes for over 2 years. They have treated me decently. Fairly comfortable. Not many injuries. But they are heavy, over 14oz heavy. And I've had several runners whom I respect tell me that they are not good running shoes. So I set out to buy "something better." I tried several Asics shoes, but they just didn't feel right in the store. I finally bought a pair of New Balance 769's last week. They are advertised as light stability trainers that compete with the Asics GT 2140. Sounds great, right? Well I ran 11 miles with them about 3 days ago, and my body is still a wreck. My lower back hurt, my legs hurt....holy shit. It was just 11 miles at about an 8 minute pace. Nothing that should have bothered me. But I swear these shoes just don't cushion nearly as well as my 992's.
So what do I do? Dunno right now. I may resume long runs in the 992's until I come upon a better deal. I did try on the Asics Gel Nimbus 11, and it felt dreamy. Just couldn't find the right size. I mainly need a long run shoe. I can find something really light to race 5/10 k's in. But I can't run long in a shoe that's gonna tear me down.
More drama to come later.

Yeah, shoes are tricky. I went from a pair of Brooks that I thought were too heavy and switched to Asics Gel Nimbus and they feel lighter, but man, do they run differently. Took quite awhile for me to get used to them. Major change in shoe design. I was really nervous at first that I screwed myself, but now that they're broken in and I'm used to them they feel great. Good luck shoe hunting!
